The face of the GLA will ”probably just offend everybody,” joked Victory’s Tim Morten. The game’s lore had the GLA rooted in Middle-Eastern culture and support - but now it’s actually global, I guess.
”This is actually a pretty big change for the game,” said Morten. The original C&C: Generals had the US, China and GLA as factions; it was a simpler time for militants.
”Anyone who knows this series will know the Global Liberation Army. But at the studio we had a bad reaction from people saying it was pretty offensive to have Middle-Eastern characters as militants.” Workers for the GLA will no longer keep asking for shoes either, apparently. They’ve finally had their requisition forms for fancy footwear approved.
The new more PR-sensitive Global Liberation Army will have five Generals of differing backgrounds.
Command and Conquer enters into closed beta this summer with registrations open. It’s currently set to release on PC this year but has no firm date. It features no single-player campaign as of now.
