Say what you want about the ’80s, but they sure gave us some excellent kids films. E.T, The Goonies, Time Bandits…. Mac & Me. Hoping to capture some of that magic is Crossing Souls, a game about a group of friends on a magical adventure.
Spanish developer Fouratti is looking for a rather modest $45,000 to complete work on the game, and they’ve already teamed up with publisher Devolver Digital for distribution.
As you can see from the trailer the game’s got a fantastic art style, all neon colours and fashionable hi-tops. You’ll control five different characters, each of whom adheres to well-worn 80s teen movie stereotypes - jocks, geeks and so on. Here’s the blurb, which wouldn’t look out of place on the back of a faded VHS tape:
“It’s 1986 in California and a group of friends will live the summer of their lives after a mysterious discovery in woods outside their quiet town. By uncovering an artifact whose powers they don’t fully understand, these remarkable kids will defy the laws of Nature and somehow interact between two planes of reality: life and death. Their curiosity will trigger a series of unexpected events that will get them involved in a government conspiracy and a mysterious U.S. Army general with his own nefarious plans.”
Each character has their own unique skills, which you’ll need to combine and use in order to get past various puzzles and encounters. You can find out more on Crossing Souls’ Kickstarter page. The campaign runs until December 17.
