They’d like to offer a number of places for devs to come and work on their own indie projects at no charge, as Fire Hose is already putting together an ”indie game seed fund”.
While the studio might not have its seed fund quite ready yet they feel you must ”strike while the iron is hot”, and right now a lot of would-be indies are out on the streets.
”Most of the developers laid off are probably wondering “What am I going to do next?”, and some are considering going indie and releasing their own games,” blogged Fire Hose. ”…sometimes you need to strike while the iron is hot and we can’t sit by and watch all this potential development talent evaporate, especially considering our mission to help other indie devs.”
”We’re offering free desk space to recently laid off devs who are planning on going full time indie. It’s a simple deal, and we’re hoping that it’ll help make the independent transition easier for those planning on making the switch.”
What they’re offering is literally some free desk space to work at with no strings attached, but caution this isn’t a ”precursor to getting in” at Fire Hose. They’ll spare up some of their own equipment too if available.
”I hope the silver lining of these layoffs are that we get more great indie games out of Boston!”
It’s a generous offer and hopefully a number of those unable to secure fresh employment will consider it. Irrational is currently helping those being let go to transition within Take-Two, or help them dust off their portfolios.
