ArenaNet is changing up their traits system in Guild Wars 2 by removing the need for profession trainers as each new tier will unlock at no charge, so players can ”dive right into the system”. Traits levels have changed.
Trait points are also being condensed so at level 80 you have 14 to spend, instead of 70, and points will start at level 30. It’s to make the system ”much easier” for newcomers.
The trait panel itself is being redesigned so it’s easier to navigate. ArenaNet feel it’s too easy to misplace trait points and end up with a weaker build.
Refunding traits has changed too as the button to instantly refund all points in PvP areas is being rolled out game-wide. There’s also no cost associated with the new refund system, and it can be done provided you’re outside of combat or a PvP match. A single trait point can also be refund instead for more precise tweaking.
All major traits will lock once the feature pack goes live. ”Major traits will now be unlocked via traits guides, a new in-game item. Double-clicking on a trait guide will unlock its associated trait. You can find trait guides by completing specific content in the world, like story dungeons, minidungeons, WvW, personal story, specific bosses, and discovering certain areas on the world map,” explained the blog update.
Forty new Grandmaster Traits are being introduced. ”These new traits are intended to further open up build possibilities and to give existing builds a much more defined role; quite a few of these traits are being implemented based on feedback from the community.” Read the blog update for a full breakdown on the new feature pack.
This new major features-only update to Guild Wars 2 will be going live in mid-April.
