Pretty, polarity-shifting platformer Outland is making its way to PC this month. It’s a side-scrolling adventure in which players can shift colours from red to blue and back again in order to avoid creatures and traps.
Developer Housemarque has announced that the PC version will include new improvements ”such as campaign co-op and a revamped checkpoint system”. It’s coming to Steam on September 29.
As you can see in the announcement trailer above, Outland’s a lovely-looking little thing. I’ve only had a brief session with it so far, but it’s got a satisfyingly tricky core mechanic - when you shift to red creatures of the same colour can’t hit you, but you can’t hit them. You have to work out when to defend and when to switch to the opposite colour to deal a killing blow. Neat.
The game was first released on PSN and Xbox Arcade in 2011, so it’s quite a strange time to bring it to PC, but who cares about that? Come September 29 you’ll be able to grab Outlast on Steam for $9,99 / €9,99 / £6,99.
