DLC maps for Evolve will be available to players free, ensuring that players won’t get kicked off of a game server because they don’t own the right content.
Creative director Phil Robb revealed the news to IGN, adding that players will also fight alongside new characters and against new monsters as long as they know someone who has bought the DLC.
“First thing we (the Evolve team) said was we can’t break the community up,” he explained, “so all of our maps will be free. We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something.”
Evolve, as you probably know, is a four-vs-one co-op title which sees a team of hunters take on a single, monstrous creature. That’s a concept ripe for DLC, and Turtle Rock has already announced that pre-order customers will unlock a unique creature for their game.
“We’ll have characters and monsters, and even if you don’t buy them, if your buddy wants to buy the DLC, that’s cool, and your game will be enhanced through his purchase,” Robb continued. “So, you won’t be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those characters.”
Sounds like good news, though there’s a few details still missing on how exactly the compatibility between DLC owners and other players will work. We’ll probably hear more before Evolve drops in 2015.
