There’s a new trailer out for Assassin’s Creed Unity, detailing the game’s character progression system that will help players customise their very own version of main character Arno.
Once you’ve chosen a fancy outfit and your character’s skill focus, you can take him online to adventure with friends packing an entirely different setup.
Gear makes a difference too. The video uses the example of ”a lower-profile hood”, which makes it easier for Arno to blend into crowds and extends the range of his ‘Eagle Vision’. Outside that you’ll have to choose between stalking the shadows, battering people in a straight up fight, or long-distance assassination. Or the ‘health’ speciality, which simply means you can take a good kicking.
Playing through the campaign unlocks a few other bits and pieces. The ‘phantom blade’, for example, is a sneaky little hand crossbow gadget. Heavy breastplate armour can turn aside bullets and blades, but makes sneaking rather difficult.
You’ll also be able to grab a few skills unique to co-op play; talents include sharing your Eagle Vision with allies, group heals, disguising your team as Parisian citizens and kitting everyone out with extra bombs.
It all sounds pretty interesting. Whether these skill upgrades will make each character feel sufficiently different remains to be seen, though. We’ll find out when Unity is released on PC and current-gen consoles this November.
