Tactical Simulations Interactive (TSI for short) has revealed its new technology ‘Gateway’, which will let players transfer their favorite characters across supported RPGs.
Unsurprisingly Gateway will be introduced alongside TSI’s upcoming RPG Seven Dragon Saga, but fellow developers InXile and Harebrained Schemes have also announced support for the system.
”With Gateway,” explains the company’s press release, ”TSI is inviting RPG developers to take part in an initiative that hearkens back to the days of classic RPGs like The Bard’s Tale, Ultima and Wizardry – a time when players could fully transfer their characters and parties into different games, without having to create them from scratch for each game.”
For those that really get into one of their specific characters, I suppose Gateway is a nice little tool. Personally I spend hours upon hours every time I load up a new RPG tweaking and rolling the perfect character, but I do know people who choose basically the same guy (big chap with sword) every time. Nice if you really get attached to someone.
Details on how exactly the system works are rather thin on the ground, but TSI’s David Shelley does mention that the company is ”proposing an independent app that avoids any issues with an existing game’s user interface and makes it a quick process for developers to add to their games.”
