Developer Creative Assembly has revealed one of the four Grand Campaigns in a 17 minute developer diary, showing off the Greenskins campaign and the meticulous care put into the 3D map, as well as the gameplay mechanics players will engage in trying to conquer the other races.
The game, which takes place during the Old World of Warhammer, immerses the player in a detailed world. Every region reflects the ruling race's demeanor. Cities and terrain reflect the personality of the denizens, especially the buildings, which vary from race to race. Vampiric Lords, for example, can transform the land itself with their influence into a dark region.
City building trees for Greenskins, as an example, include buildings that grant giants, while tech and skill trees reflect their race's strengths. In addition, Legendary Lords themselves add their own special tech trees.
The video also covers combat, both "quick" simulated combat as well as full blown, detailed skirmishes. It also revealed that races that can burrow under mountains may engage in subterranean battles. Some armies such as the goblin armies will grow unhappy if they're not fighting and will turn on each other.
If an army has a great deal of success, they will earn a "WAAAGH!" rating that adds benefits to that army incuding new heroes that will join the rampaging army among other bonuses such as armor piercing.
Creative Assembly promises a live stream of the gameplay next week. Total War: Warhammer is due to be released sometime in 2016.
