Popcap Games has released a new developer diary narrated by Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 lead designer Jordan Watt on the new Solo Ops mode that allows players to enjoy the game on their lonesome.
Solo Ops features the player choosing up to three teammates to be controlled by the AI. However, players can hot swap between the plants; in fact, only the plant being controlled by the player earns XP. Otherwise, gameplay is the same as the normal game.
The plants demoed in this video feature a bunch of alternate from the normal plants, including Pops Corn, who has a long range zoom for his rapid-fire sniper attack, and the futuristic Electro Citron who has a chain lightning attack, as well as the ability to turn into a metallic ball and roll over zombies. Then there's Druid Rose, who has the ability to not only entrap zombies in a time freeze bubble, but can turn them into goats before turning them into someone's dinner. Finally, Vampire Rose is a sunflower who drains enemy life for herself.
The Boss of the level that was featured in the diary is Zen Sensei, who not only has some powerful martial arts attacks, but can also clone himself into a gang of Zen Senseis.
Finally, the video introduced Crazy Settings, while allow players to include some offbeat mutators into matches, including Low Gravity, Infini-ammo, Simply Explode Mode, Ridiculously Low Health, Speed Boost Craziness and Super Crazy Knock-back Mode. The mode is available for both multiplayer and Solo Ops.
Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is due to be released in February 2016.
