Next on Ubisoft’s whistle-stop tour of the best international shooty-people is France, and more specifically the GIGN counter-terrorism unit. Four gruff, Gallic soldiers and their individual skills have been highlighted in the company’s latest trailer for Rainbow Six: Siege.
The GIGN opt for heavier armour than some of their fellow CT forces, and seem to focus more on defense and support than the hard-hitting SAS and SWAT teams.
“Twitch” uses a shock drone in combat, which can incapacitate devices or distract enemies with jolts of electricity; “Montagne” carries a ballistic shield for deflecting enemy small-arms fire; “Doc” packs a Stim pistol that can revive allies at range, while “Rook” hands out armour packs to the rest of his team. You can find out more about their individual abilities and potential weapon loadouts here.
From what seemed like a very stripped down shooter experience when it was first announced, Siege is getting a little bit more silly with all these MOBA-style special abilities, but it still looks like a lot of fun. I just hope that the simple premise doesn’t get too bogged down.
You can pre-order the game now for instant access the the Beta when it launches this September 24.
