"We would like to say thank you to every single one of the three million players, that have joined us on the journey of making DayZ,” writes project lead David Durcak, who took over from the game's original creator Dean Hall after his departure. “You all have helped make DayZ the best open world, zombie survival game. This is an amazing achievement, and we are really looking forward to start sharing with you all of our game design improvements, anti-hack solutions and other optimizations we have been working on for a majority of the last year."
The Day Z team has been expanded to over 80 members over the last year, and the major work currently being carried out involves switching the game's creaking Real Virtuality engine over to the new Direct X11-capable Enfusion engine. Other additions on the way in the coming months include new zombie AI, a basic stealth system, and a new rendering system.
