The question has finally been answered. What is No Man’s Sky? It’s a crafting and survival game. With precedent set by games like Minecraft and Terraria, that means a lot of continued support and free updates down the line. But director Sean Murray hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of paid DLC.
There are already multiple major new features planned for coming patches, with base building and the ownership of big space freighters coming in the next major update, and it’s at least strongly suggested that more free content is planned in future. Whether or not new stuff will always be free is an open question, however.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Murray wouldn’t rule out completely the possibility of charging for DLC. “Maybe in the future there’s some reason why we just couldn’t possibly afford to do a certain feature without charging for it.”
Of course, that’s also hardly confirmation of upcoming DLC. Murray also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of an Xbox One version of the game, which is currently exclusive to PC and PlayStation 4.
