Bandai Namco is apparently having a wonderful time with Dark Souls III, as the publisher has released two trailers that are heavy on the cheese. One is an animated short by noted horror schlock auteur Eli Roth and the other a faux 1980’s VHS commerical complete with overuse artifacts.
Roth is best known for such films as Hostel, Cabin Fever and the recently released The Green Inferno; a “cannibals in the Amazon” homage to Cannibal Holocaust. As one might expect, there’s plenty of cartoonish gore in the Three Witches trailer, starring a hero being harassed by three creepy witches who insist he try their stew.

Meanwhile, the other film harkens back to the days of VHS rentals, and it’s kind of obvious this tape’s been viewed by thousands of people. This trailer actually shows gameplay, but through a filter to simulate a tape that’s on its last legs, with color diffusion and video head tracking marks. Still, it makes gamers of a certain age miss those halcyon days when you would rent a B-movie from Full Moon Features and enjoy the over-the-top violence, with the occasional boob flash.
