The developers of Dead Effect 1 and 2, BadFly Interactive, have announced a promising new co-op FPS called TauCeti: Unknown Origin that's something of a follow-up to the Dead Effect games. The trailer can be viewed <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpsAILNvRs4>here</a> or at the end of this post.
Yes, we realise that the Dead Effect games, from their title onwards, haven't exactly got the best reputation around. But they're certainly fun, mindless FPSs that don't take themselves seriously, and that's something we need more of these days when the only big FPSs coming out are multiplayer games or id Software titles. Or both. And check out the trailer, you can't deny that it looks a little bit cool.

Is Titanfall 3 actually happening? We check out the evidence!
TauCeti's set after the crash of the ship from Dead Effect 2 on an unknown and very lush jungle planet. There's a native population, ancient temples to explore, massive creatures to fight, and apparently even the opportunity to build a base. TauCeti boasts single-player, co-op, raids, PvE and PvP, and even VR support. And, somehow, it'll still be on mobiles too (those things are getting ridiculous).
There are vehicles, crafting, base building, classes, upgradable weapons and abilities, which if they're anything like Dead Effect 2 includes the likes of slow motion bullet time and force fields. There's a full story to experience, an open world to explore, and plenty of things to shoot at.
The trailer shows off strange alien monoliths, massive canyons, dinosaur-like creatures including giant insects, pterodactyls, dragons, and spiders, and wonderful-looking jetbikes. There's also something that looks a lot like a Stargate, but we wouldn't presume that.
Look, we're not saying TauCeti is going to be the best game ever made. BadFly are quite a small developer and all these features they're talking about will probably only be in there for five minutes, make no difference, or the whole thing will only be an hour long. If it's coming out on mobile too it can't possibly be as good as the trailer makes it look. Nevertheless if it's just a fun, simple shooter with co-op elements we'll happily take it. And we appreciate any developer who has ambition with their games. I'd rather have a spectacular failure than a wet fart.
Moreover, BadFly are kind of lovable. I'd never make fun of a non-English speaker for not speaking my language perfectly, but you gotta love BadFly's inability to get an English language speaker to proofread their press releases. Expect "TAUCETI Unknow Origin – real step into universe!" to "make its name trotting the star" of TauCeti, "unexplored but truly existing star, which is the only spot for you to survive." It's an "open word" game, apparently. Is that like Scrabble?
