QuakeCon is on, Quake Champions is now available on Early Access and the whole GameWatcher team have got it, complete with Doomguy! The GameWatcher staff will be playing it today at 21:00 UK time/13:00 PT/16:00 ET on our Twitch channel, where we'll give our impressions and get utterly trounced by every other person around! We're pretty good... except when we're not. Many of us will be playing for the first time, which should be fun!
Quake Champions is the latest in the long-running Quake series and a proper update/remake/sequel to Quake III Arena. It's been in beta for several months and is now finally available to buy on Steam Early Access for £19.99/$24.99, which will get you the Champions Pack complete with the new Doom Marine Champion, aka Doomguy, aka Doom Slayer, aka Corporal Flynn "Fly" Taggart (if you're a big crappy book ready). With Doomguy, Quake's Ranger, and Wolfenstein's BJ Blazkowicz, Quake Champions is becoming a proper little id Software celebration to go with QuakeCon itself. All they need is Commander Keen, a Strogg and some random person from Rage.
Quake III Arena is considered the perfect version of the classic multiplayer arena shooter, with straightforward quick kill-each-other objectives in gorgeous but easy to navigate environments. Quake Champions has 11 different fighters so far, all of which have their own special and passive abilities. Doom Slayer has Berserk punching mode and a double jump, BJ Blazkowicz can dual-wield weapons, and Ranger wields the same teleport cube that allowed him to defeat the final boss in Quake. While there will be a free-to-play mode with just Ranger the Early Access version will require paying for the Champions Pack, which will unlock all Champions include ones still to be released.
You can watch the stream below or go to our Twitch channel for the full experience. If you miss it you can check out our recent broadcasts or our YouTube channel. The game's available on Steam Early Access from Tuesday, but if you're unsure about it check it out with us first! We're better than a demo!
