Electronic Arts has recently announced that its games are making its way back to Steam starting with November's Jedi: Fallen Order. Afterwards, Apex Legends and Battlefield V will also count among the titles that will leave Origin exclusivity behind.
Interestingly enough, it's now been confirmed that Apex Legends' Steam version will, in fact, not require Origin at all in order to partake in the action.
Apex Legends Steam Origin
When Reddit users began speculating that Apex Legends's Steam version would use Origin, much like Ubiosft games do Uplay, a Respawn dev replied by saying the following: "Not true. Apex will launch directly with Steam without running Origin.".
While Apex Legends' Steam version doesn't require Origin to run, cross-play between players on the two storefronts will be very much possible.
Publisher Electronic Arts also intends to bring its EA Access subscription service over to Steam at some point next year.
Apex Legends is currently available on PC, via Origin, Xbox One and PS4. The title will make its way over to Steam, alongside the likes of Battlefield V and FIFA 20 at some point in 2020.
