Deep Rock Galactic's shift to seasonal updates brought significant changes in how the co-op first-person shooter handles post-launch updates. Its first season was received very well, thanks to its new weapons, mission type, and free battle pass, already sparking question about Season 2's start and end dates during those sacred pre-battle drinking sessions.
Deep Rock Galactic's Season 2 will follow a similar structure in terms of content. It will introduce a different theme and events for players to tackle as well as loads of new items to collect. The arsenal available to miners will also grow once more with new weapons to unlock and customize. Read on below for all the details we know so far, including when the second season's start and end date might occur.
Deep Rock Galactic Season 2 Start Date
Although there's still a bit to go before we'll get our hands on Deep Rock Galactic's Season 2, developer Ghost Ship Games initially announced that its start date is currently expected to land at some point between March 2022 and April 2022, before later confirming that it is targeting an April release date. It will first arrive on Steam, before coming to consoles several weeks later.
The developer plans to keep the length of seasons at between 4 and 6 months, which means that Deep Rock Galactic's Season 2 end date will likely occur somewhere between August 2022 and October 2022.
Naturally, plans can change as development progresses and these dates might shift, so we'll only know for sure when they're officially announced.
On March 24, the game's Twitter account posted a piece of artwork featuring dwarves shooting at an massive opponent inside an ice cave. Encased in the icy floor is the number 22, which could be Season 2's start date.
One day later, the developer confirmed on Twitter that Deep Rock Galactic's second season kicks off on April 28 for Steam users and May 5 for Microsoft Store/console users.
- Deep Rock Galactic's Season 2 start date: April 28, 2022 (Steam)/May 5, 2022 (Microsoft Store/consoles)
- Deep Rock Galactic's Season 2 end date: Between August 2022 and October 2022
The developer also noted, in a blog post, that "Season 02 will be a bit less ambitious and will come out faster" than the first one, which required almost 7 months of work before it was ready.
Called Rival Escalation, Season 2 will "build upon Season 01 and expand on the whole Rival theme," according to the developer, who also confirmed that the Industrial Sabotage mission won't go anywhere.
In addition, Season 2 will add four new secondary weapons – one for each class –, thus completing the third set of guns available to miners since the first season launched.
Deep Rock Galactic Season 2 Rival Escalation Secondary Weapons
- Scout - Nishanka Boltshark X-80
- Gunner - ArmsKore Coil Gun
- Driller - Colette Wave Cooker
- Engineer - Shard Diffractor
These will be unlocked via assignments and come with their own mods, overclocks, and unlockable weapon frames.
A new Performance Pass – DRG's take on the battle pass system – is also confirmed to add new rewards, including cosmetic items, that players can unlock over time. Like its predecessor, it will remain free.
The developer has also confirmed that, while Season 1's Performance Pass won't stay in the game in its current shape, all the items redeemable through it can be obtained through Lost Packs, Cargo Crates, Matrix Cores, and the Shop once Season 2 launches.
Shop items will also be purchasable using Phazyonite, a new mineable resource introduced alongside the second season. You can get a better look at everything that's coming in the video embedded below.
