After the gargantuan success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is moving away from the iconic Forgotten Realms and returning to the Divinity franchise and the world of Rivellon. Here’s what we know about this mysterious new RPG so far.
Following leaks ahead of the game’s Game Awards debut, the studio was quick to shut down talk of a third Original Sin RPG. However, that didn’t negate the leaked trademarks that clearly pointed to a new Divinity game being in development. Now we know it was all real, but this new cRPG’s nature remains a bit of a mystery, and it’ll likely remain that way for a while…
Divinity Release Date
The plus-three-minute cinematic announcement trailer didn’t reveal a release window for the game, which is probably still years away from launching.
The wait could be shorter if the powers that be at Larian decide to move forward with another early access launch akin to BG3’s, but we’ve yet to learn what their plans are.
Divinity Story
“The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir.”
This first look at Divinity didn’t come with details about the plot or gameplay we should expect, and the trailer itself is more of a mood setter.
We can infer something’s seriously wrong in the lands of Rivellon though. During a wicker man celebration full of fire, blood, feasting, and even public orgies, the man being sacrificed (maybe a sorcerer of sorts) releases dark forces which attract and consume every living being present at the event, turning them all into a gigantic, disturbing effigy of sorts.
Something dark is coming to Rivellon, and if this trailer is any indication, Larian might be targeting a far gloomier tone with its next massive RPG.
Divinity Gameplay
We don’t have the slightest clue about Divinity’s gameplay yet, though we know it’s “an RPG with greater breadth & depth than ever before” for the studio. Chances are the developers will stick to their tried-and-tested cRPG roots.
Considering BG3’s success, however, we wouldn’t be really surprised if they decided to shake things up in a big way. Will it be turn-based or real-time? Place your bets now, but we suspect it won’t just be an evolution of past projects, like the two Divinity: Original Sin games.
Divinity Price and Platforms
The announcement trailer didn’t even give us the platforms that Divinity is targeting. PC should be locked, of course, but we don’t know if Larian’s next will release on consoles at the same time as well.
We know many of you are hoping for that, but you’ll need to be a bit more patient. Same goes for a potential price tag. It’ll be a while before the game’s properly unveiled, we think.
Divinity Trailers
Divinity’s extremely gory and disturbing announcement trailer arrived during The Game Awards 2025, and you can watch it here… if you have a strong stomach:
