UPDATE February 17: Europa Universalis rolled back to Update 1.30.4
Europa Universalis 4’s Nakama Update 1.30.5 is now live, its patch notes announcing updates to the multiplayer backend that will enable cross-platform play in the future. The new backend will allow Paradox “to focus more on developing game features and content, and working on bugfixes rather than maintaining our own complex multiplayer platform.”
Logging into your Paradox account is now required if you plan on playing EU4 multiplayer games. Update 1.30.5 also introduces a small number of bug fixes and changes to the title’s interface.
Below, you’ll find all the changes and additions that the Nakama Update 1.30.5 today introduced to Europa Universalis IV, as detailed in the full patch notes:
- Changed multiplayer backend for a unified multiplayer solution which will eventually allow for cross distribution platform MP games.

- Bugfixes: Fixed problem when reloading would cause you to get Rev. Rev. Rev in some colonials names.
- Interface: Increased the warning for Agenda expiry to 3 years from 1 year.

Paradox has rolled back Europa Universalis IV to the 1.30.4 version, calling the Nakama 1.30.5 update “a mistake” that “has damaged a lot of the faith many of you have.”
“We did not expect that this update would corrupt ironman games or significantly affect multiplayer, and clearly it should have gone through much more testing,” the publisher said in a forum post.
“We cannot, of course, roll back your saved games if you have already had them corrupted by this update. No reversion can undo problems that have already occurred, but can prevent more people from encountering them.”
The Nakama update will undergo more testing before making its return and Paradox said that it will “explore the feasibility of a public beta” before apologizing to players.
EUIV is available now on PC. Its upcoming Leviathan expansion will add new features that encourage playing tall as smaller nations.
