Paradox Interactive and C Prompt Games’ middling 4X strategy game Millennia won’t be getting more updates or patches, the publisher and developers have confirmed.
The news came on October 3, with a short Steam blog post pointing players to Update 8’s patch notes and shooting down hopes of further development as Paradox Interactive refocuses and sets its many priorities straight following a rough couple of years or so.
“With this patch, we are sadly coming to the end of an age. This will be the final patch for Millennia, thanks to C Prompt for their work and support of this game. We at Paradox will no longer be active on community platforms for Millennia, but you can continue counting on us for support needs, and the game will remain available to play indefinitely.”
The post is a brief one, and it’s not unfair to say Millennia is going out with a whimper, as the crowded 4X space quickly got superior alternatives and was shaken up earlier this year by Civilization 7, a long-awaited game that’s also been hit with heavy criticism from veteran players.
In our review last year, we rated Millennia 6/10 at launch, with a general lack of polish and depth being the biggest offenders and bringing down an otherwise conceptually interesting riff on other historical 4X games. Post-launch updates and two major DLCs gave it some extra spice and improved on what was there, but it seems other critical base-level issues were a tough nut to crack, with player sentiment being far from ideal.
