Is Leon S. Kennedy going to be in Resident Evil Requiem? You might have heard the latest rumors which point to his return in next year’s new RE game, but the reality might be a bit more complicated… Here’s what we know so far.
We don’t know much about Resident Evil Requiem’s cast of characters and voices at the time of writing, but that may change after The Game Awards 2025, where the ninth mainline RE entry is set to make a new appearance. That would be the perfect opportunity to reveal the return of one of the series’ most beloved heroes. If recent leaks are to be believed, however, we could’ve been a bit misled…
Is Leon S. Kennedy returning in Resident Evil Requiem?
Some PlayStation players have started reporting a bunch of the regional PlayStation Stores have started to update the images for Resident Evil Requiem slightly ahead of time, potentially revealing Leon S. Kennedy’s return before a grand reveal at The Game Awards.
More users have confirmed the findings on social media, so unless this is a widely orchestrated ruse, it seems that Leon will be showing up one way or another in the game.
UPDATE: IGN has just shared the leaked image in HD, putting rumors of Leon’s presence to rest.
Is Leon S. Kennedy a playable character in Resident Evil Requiem?
Here’s where things get trickier. According to leaked Deluxe Edition details via GameStop (hat tip to Screen Rant), there will indeed be a second playable character in Resident Evil Requiem, but Leon might not be in the mix.
The other key character, according to the leaked details, is Rose Winters, Ethan Winters’ (RE7/8) daughter. Given her powers and recent importance as a key part of the modern RE mythos, her appearance makes sense, but if she’s indeed the second playable character in the game, that would leave Leon out of the equation… even if he does show up.
The Deluxe Edition’s leaked details (now removed from the GS site) talked of additional cosmetics for her. Though Leon could still show up as a legacy character with more of a guest role, it appears that Capcom is betting on new faces versus looking to the past (we have the recurring remakes for that anyway).
Resident Evil Requiem is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026.
