Showgunners and Sumerian Six developer Artificer’s next game is Minos, an ambitious “maze-building roguelike” in which you become the legendary Minotaur and try to keep “bloodthirsty adventurers” away from you and your riches.
“They’ve heard the stories of a fearsome monster lurking in the dark, fame and riches waiting for the one who slays it and survives to tell the tale,” the press release narrates. “What they don’t know is that you are the one who built this confounding labyrinth, laid the traps and now lie in wait.” You can watch the enticing announcement trailer below:
The Dungeons and Dungeon Keeper vibes are certainly there, yet Minos appears to have tricks of its own, including “rotating passages and shifting gates” on top of all the traps available. Plus, the approach appears to be more hands-on when the adventurers arrive. And of course, “no two runs are the same” (don’t forget this is a roguelike).
“Drag walls, gates and corridors into place to shape your maze however you like. Make long, winding paths full of traps or confuse and split the interlopers up with rotating passages and shifting gates. It’s your maze: clever or cruel, it’s up to you.”
It remains to be seen how much of the Devolver Digital-published game comes together beyond the basic gameplay loop and new enemies, traps, and ways to make the maze deadlier as you learn more about the Minotaur and his domain, but there’s a demo already available on Steam. Quite the bold move!
