Impressive third-party ports have quickly become a huge part of Nintendo Switch 2’s library, but we still believe some current-gen giants might be too big and heavy for the hybrid console. Against expectations, however, Capcom could be bringing last year’s Monster Hunter Wilds to Nintendo’s platform.
Capcom has already been quite vocal about its interest in Switch 2, which is already set to receive same-day heavy hitters in 2026 like Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and even Pragmata. We think porting Monster Hunter Wilds would make financial sense for sure, but considering the technical woes still plaguing it, which Capcom aims to finally sort out roughly a year after its launch, there’s cause for concern.
Via VGC, we’ve learned about the dataminer-led investigation into references to Nintendo’s console found in the latest PC update of the game. Local multiplayer support is one of the key features referenced, and there’s even information which points to the game running at (hopefully stable) 30 FPS via the console’s native DLSS capabilities.
Following the release of the excellent Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami ports last year, this would mark yet another adaptation of a beloved game in Capcom’s hot library, but given its open-world nature and how hard to properly run it’s been even on beefier hardware, we can’t blame anyone for thinking this could be a trickier one to pull off.
It also could signal Capcom moving away from Nintendo-first “side entries” in the series, which would be disappointing to many. Nintendo Switch’s Monster Hunter Rise was celebrated to the point it eventually received PlayStation, Xbox, and PC ports, and you’d think Capcom would want to release another game tailor-made for the Switch 2. Maybe we could be getting both?
For now, fans are still biting through the last “large-scale” content update for MH Wilds and waiting for the long-awaited performance improvements. Once those are out of the way, it might be time to drop news on the expected expansion pack which doubles down on harder endgame content. Maybe the plan is to also announce the rumored Switch 2 port alongside that, but we’ll have to wait and see.
