The sequel to Nine Dots Studios’ distinct RPG experience is naturally going bigger, but not forgetting its roots as a freeing journey of an everyman just trying to get by in a vast fantasy world built on the struggle for survival.
The first game was a unique treat in the RPG space, so I, and many others, are keen to see what the developer can do with Outward 2. So let’s take a look at the Outward 2 release date, gameplay details, trailers, and more.
Outward 2 Release Date
Nine Dots Studio has announced that the Outward 2 Early Access release date is July 7, 2026. Eager players can play the game as early as May 26, 2026, during the Closed Beta if they’re lucky enough to get into it.
Outward 2 Gameplay
Outward 2 will usher players into Aurai, an unforgiving world that is gentle to no one. You are no prophesied saviour with some innate power to carry you to glory.
The definitive adventure simulator casts players as ordinary adventurers, where critical thinking and preparation are the only tickets to grand experiences. Drop your backpack before combat so that you’re able to move freely. Scout out a dangerous creature’s path and lay traps to weaken it before the killing blow.
Every decision matters, and consequences are real. Even death is no respite, as this only turns the page to the chapter where you must pick yourself up from the mud, find your backpack, and continue your journey with renewed vigor and insight.
The game will be playable in two-player split-screen or online co-op.
Outward 2 Story
Outward 2 has a story, but a rather unorthodox one for an RPG. Here, you’re not a hero of legend.
You’ll get to shape your modest and meagre beginnings through three distinct starting scenarios and eleven backgrounds, which will determine where to start in this brutal world. If you’re knocked out, your journey continues, and you must live with the consequences.
Outward 2 Platforms, Price, and Pre-Orders
For Early Access, Outward 2 is only on PC via Steam. The original game was released on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S, so it’s certainly not out of the question that Outward 2 will head to consoles once Early Access ends
There’s currently no pricing or pre-orders, but you can wishlist it on Steam and apply for the Outward 2 Playtest.
