It’s no secret Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has been a critical and financial disappointment, but now Paradox Interactive is openly admitting it’s severely underperformed and announcing a $37.4 million write-down.
The publisher announced on November 26, 2025, that it’d decided to “make a non-cash write-down of MSEK 355 of capitalised development costs for the game.” That amounts to $37.4 million. At the same time, CEO Fredrik Wester praised the job the developers, with The Chinese Room being the studio that got the troubled project to the finish line, had done.
In the end, too many bumps in the road and the creative shakeups resulted in a game that, while not a complete failure among players who have given it a go, feels like the shadow of a follow-up to the 2004 cult classic. Regardless, Paradox remains fully committed to patching the game we ended up getting into better shape and delivering two major story DLCs next year.
“Going forward, we focus our capital to our core segments and, at the same time, we’ll evaluate how we best develop World of Darkness’ strong brand catalogue in the future,” added Wester as Paradox continues to refocus around core franchises and genres it has a solid understanding of. It was only a few weeks ago that Europa Universalis V released to wide acclaim and huge success, so we can say it’s not all doom and gloom at the publisher as of late.
