Four years have passed since Star Wars: Eclipse’s official reveal and, despite its return to obscurity with no further details shared since we learned of its existence, developer Quantic Dream today assured fans that the game remains in development.
Confirmed by founder David Cage in a post on the studio’s official website, the news was accompanied by the unexpected announcement that the studio is also working on a competitive multiplayer game, a genre that sits well outside its comfort zone.
Quantic Dream Confirms Star Wars: Eclipse Still in Development
“After years as a single-project studio, we also decided to take a new step,” Cage wrote. “Multiple teams are fully dedicated to crafting the next generation of great games, including something very different, a competitive multiplayer experience, born from the same spirit of curiosity and creativity that has always defined us.”
Quantic Dream’s competitive multiplayer game is, unsurprisingly, “very different from what [it has] done so far,” but that is also the full extent of what we learned about it.
Cage goes on to note that “development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues and we are eager to share more with you in the future.” Whether that might be the near or far future is anyone’s guess.
As much as studios branching out and experimenting with different genres can yield interesting results, Quantic Dream diving into the competitive multiplayer arena is unlikely to excite Star Wars: Eclipse fans who are, yet again, left without any new details about the title.
Set during the High Republic Era, Eclipse wowed millions with its cinematic reveal trailer before going back into slumber. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before it resurfaces with a meatier showing that, perhaps, sheds some light on how it actually plays.
