Shenmue 3 exclusivity has now, as it seems, been brought into question by none other than its developer Ys Net and publisher Deep Silver. This is, according to developers themselves, due to fan outrage over the game's Epic exclusivity deal.
The announcement that Shenmue 3 would launch as an Epic exclusiv was not taken well by the fans and previous Kickstarter backers, with the amount of dust they kicked up reaching impressive levels.
According to the latest Kickstarter update, the developers want fans to know that they are, in fact, listening to them: "We kindly ask all our fans to have some patience, we are currently at E3 demoing the game and need to get back to our respective offices to assess the situation and together find a way forward to justify the trust you placed in us."
Do keep in mind - of course - that this does not mean that the game won't launch as an Epic exclusive. It may well be just a PR move, but there's simply no way to tell at the moment.
We'll have to wait and see how things go moving forward, but the fact that developers are willing to address the issue outright is a good sign, if nothing else. Stay tuned for more on the situation as it develops.
