Subnautica 2 launched in early access to great fanfare, its Steam concurrent player count surpassing 400,000 players shortly after release.
Furthermore, publisher and developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has confirmed that the highly anticipated survival game has sold more than a million copies in less than a day after becoming available to the public.
Subnautica 2 Sells 1 Million Copies as Concurrent Player Count Soars Past 400,000
At the time of writing, Subnautica 2 reached a concurrent player count peak of 467,582 on Steam alone, as confirmed by SteamDB, already cementing its position as one of the year’s most popular games.
The messy lawsuit with publisher Krafton doesn’t appear to have hurt the sequel’s momentum in any way, going by these numbers, which are further supported by the amount of copies Subnautica 2 has sold in less than a day since becoming available in early access.
“Over 1 million Subnauts have already dived into Subnautica 2,” a post on X, formerly Twitter, reads, accompanied by a picture confirming that the title has already sold 1 million copies.
The sequel is also available on Xbox Series X/S and Game Pass, which likely bolsters the number of players who will give it a shot as its early access journey continues.
Prior to launch, more than 5 million fans had wishlisted the survival game, and it’s very likely that some of them will be waiting for more updates to drop or even the full release before jumping in.
It remains to be seen whether developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment can capitalize on this momentum and deliver a sequel that surpasses its acclaimed predecessors. What’s certain is that it is off to an excellent start.
