Tempest Rising’s Triple Threat update is now live, bringing with it several new features that include a spectator mode, 3v3 matches, and customizable game speed settings alongside a series of balance changes.
Leading the charge, spectator mode allows us to observe custom matches while having access to an interface that displays the stats of all players involved, including the amount of current and total power, credits, and population capacity.

The mode also comes with a spectator-exclusive in-game chat as well as the ability to toggle the fog of war on and off.
Another major addition in Tempest Rising’s Triple Threat update is that of the much-requested 3v3 matches, which are now available in custom games and skirmish.
The map pool has grown with four new additions, while single-player modes now allow us to both pause the game – while retaining the ability to order our units around – and pick from multiple game speed options.
The classic mouse controls option is gone, replaced with fully rebindable mouse buttons, while a dedicated button allows us to switch between the Build and Doctrines tab.
Tempest Rising’s Triple Threat update also brings a significant quality of life change by allowing us to reconnect to ongoing matches when our internet refuses to cooperate.
Should we drop connection, we have up to 180 seconds to rejoin before the match ends with our opponent declared the winner.
On top of that, a fairly lengthy list of balance changes and bugfixes have been deployed. You’ll find them all in the patch notes published on Steam.
Since launch, developer Slipgate Ironworks has kept adding new modes and features to its excellent RTS, and there’s likely more to come in the future.
The Veti are meant to join the GDF and Tempest Dynasty as a playable faction at some point in the future and, with a bit of luck, that won’t be the only thing the team has cooking for Tempest Rising.
