The story of Resident Evil Requiem takes many twists and turns within its 12-hour runtime. Through thick and thin, we see Grace and Leon in many deadly situations. However, the game’s ending leaves said choice to you, the player. (SPOILERS!!!)
As you’ll see, you are presented with two options: release Elpis or destroy Elpis. So which one do you choose? And what happens if you do one over the other? We have those answers here for you to peruse.
Do You Release Elpis or Destroy Elpis in Resident Evil Requiem?
The best choice is one you wouldn’t think at first, given the story. In Resident Evil Requiem, the good ending is choosing Release Elpis. Choosing Destroy Elpis will actually trigger the bad ending, even if the story makes Elpis out to be a bad idea. If you want to find out why, we’ll go into spoilers below.
Resident Evil Requiem: Destroy Elpis Ending
In this ending, Grace inputs Destruction into the computer, ending the production of Elpis. The factory starts to crumble from self-destruction, and Leon and Grace go to escape. However, Leon pushes Grace onto a stable platform and stays behind to distract Zeno. Unfortunately, with Leon’s condition being as bad as it is, he stands no chance against Zeno, who takes him out quickly. Grace watches in horror as everything crumbles around her and sees Leon get beaten down by Zeno. To end it all, Zeno takes out his pistol and shoots Leon square in the head, killing the Resident Evil icon. Grace escapes the factory before it collapses and is the only survivor, leaving it all behind. A helicopter arrives to pick her up, and Grace laments the fact that she couldn’t save Leon, despite her best efforts.
Resident Evil Requiem Release Elpis Ending
In this ending, Grace remembers the password, Hope, and enters it into the computer, starting the process and producing the substance. Zeno takes it, and it’s revealed that it has fixed his condition and killed his powers. Grace realizes it’s a cure and uses it on Leon. Gideon arrives during this time and kills Zeno by chopping his head off, as he’s mutated into a tentacled creature like Nemesis. Before Gideon can attack Grace and Leon, she injects Leon with the cure, ending his disease and bringing him back to normal
You then enter combat as Leon and beat Victor in his new form, shooting the red blotches and using your trusty hatchet to get some swings in. Once Victor is dead with a well-placed shot with the Requiem, Grace and Leon realize that the two aren’t leaving, as all exits have been blocked. They accept their impending demise together before, from above, BSAA agents from the Wolf Hound Squad descend to rescue the two. On orders of Chris Redfield (yes, THAT Chris Redfield from past games), they bring them up to the surface and they finally get a breather. The two chat about the cure and Grace wishes they could’ve saved Emily. Leon reveals that he didn’t actually kill her, as he purposely missed vital organs, indicating she is still alive.
In a post-credit scene, we see Grace chatting with Leon over the phone, who tells Grace that Sherry is healing thanks to Elpis. We learn that not only did Emily survive, but Grace adopted her, much like Alyssa did for Grace. Emily has seemingly regained her eyesight, now learning how to read. Nathan beckons for Grace to submit her report, and we see Grace’s desk, with two pictures: one of Alyssa and Grace, and one of Grace and Emily.
However, it’s not over yet, as there’s one more stinger. We are brought back to the Ark facility, now demolished. Two mysterious agents appear near a dead BSAA soldier. They converse with an unknown party, saying that they have retrieved something the ‘wolves’ haven’t found yet. Perhaps in a later title or DLC, we’ll find out what that may be, but for now, all is well in the world of Resident Evil.
