World of Warcraft Classic’s Character Clone service will have its price reduced, Blizzard announced today. Set to be introduced with the Burning Crusade expansion pre-patch, it allows players to pay in order to keep playing a character on both Classic and Burning Crusade servers. The two will be separated once the expansion launches.
WoW Classic’s Character Clone service was originally priced at $35 or your regional equivalent, which a large portion of the community considered to be too steep a price. This led to an outpouring of backlash against the decision, that has reached the developer’s ears.
“This service – providing a player with a second copy of a character in a different game – is new for us. Our original concept of the value of this service was largely based on how we price other optional items and services. We want players who choose Classic Era realms to feel as though their choice comes with the possibility that they’ll be able to build relationships and guilds with other players they can count on,” Community Manager Kaivax wrote in a forum post.
“However, over the last week or so, we’ve gotten a very large amount of feedback from the community, and we’ve decided to lower the price. A lower price will likely still accomplish our goals with the new service, while allowing many more players to explore the option of playing characters on both Classic Era and Burning Crusade Classic realms.”
When it becomes available next week, alongside the expansion pre-patch, WoW Classic’s Character Clone service will cost $15.00 USD or your regional equivalent. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the Classic server population.
World of Warcraft Classic: Burning Crusade launches on June 1 at 3 PM PDT/6 PM EDT/11 PM BST and sees players returning to the shattered realm of Outland. The Blood Elf and Draenei races become available on May 18, when the pre-patch launches.
