GameWatcher heads to Rockfort Island with Claire Redfield to investigate the Resident Evil Veronica release date, platforms, gameplay details, trailers, and more.
No Resident Evil game has cried out for a remake quite like Code: Veronica. The 2000s game saw Resident Evil make a generational jump for the first time, and while it brought exciting new possibilities, there was awkwardness as the underlying structure of the series was uprooted, with a switch to 3D environments over the previous fixed cameras and pre-rendered backgrounds.
While it was technically the true Resident Evil 3, Code: Veronica instead ended up designated as a spinoff despite the clear continuation of the mainline story.
Not that I’m bitter or defensive about that. Anyway, rejoice! Resident Evil Veronica will reimagine the flawed yet fascinating Euro horror in the same vein as the remakes of Resident Evil 2,3, and 4.
So what do we know about it? What’s the Resident Evil Veronica release date? What platforms will it be on? What changes to the game will there be? Let’s see what we know so far.
Resident Evil Veronica Release Date
The initial announcement of Resident Evil Veronica came with a 2027 release window. Historically, we could expect Resident Evil Veronica to launch around Early Spring.
Resident Evil Veronica Story
In the aftermath of the Raccoon City outbreak, Claire Redfield, who escaped alongside Leon Kennedy and Sherry Birkin, heads to France in search of her missing brother Chris.
Things go sideways, of course, and Claire is kidnapped by Umbrella Special Forces and dumped on the mysterious Rockfort Island. Worse news still, there’s been another bioweapon disaster, so escaping will take more than just finding the nearest dock.
Resident Evil Veronica Gameplay
Capcom promises Resident Evil Veronica will preserve the essence of the original game, while introducing modernised gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics.
In the original game, the story was split between Claire and Chris Redfield, but so far, Claire has been the focus of the initial reveal. Could we see Chris take more of a background role, or will we get the kind of split between protagonists we saw in Resident Evil Requiem?
Claire is certainly more capable than Grace Ashcroft was in requiem, so it will be interesting to see if there’s a stark difference in how Claire and Chris play if they do share the load.
Resident Evil Veronica Platforms, Pre-Orders, and Prices
Resident Evil Veronica will be launching on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
No price or pre-orders just yet, but the cost will likely be similar to previous modern Resident Evil games and you can wishlist the game for now.
