When does Star Wars: Galactic Racer take place in the Star Wars timeline? Ahead of its October launch, players are wondering whether this new racing title happens before or after the Imperial Era of a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve got an answer right here.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s place in the timeline

As explained by the marketing materials and developer interviews, Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s story mode happens after the fall of the Empire. More specifically, it happens years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

This new period of relative peace is called the New Republic era. As the Rebel Alliance and everyone who opposed the villainous Empire try to rebuild the government of the olden days, much of the galaxy remains lawless.

During this period, criminal groups and different parts of the underworld occupy higher positions of power. As a result, the most dangerous sports banned by the Empire also come back. This is why the Galactic League of races is born and flourishes.

Is podracing back in Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Podracing is part of Star Wars: Galactic Racer’s playable races, with at least six iconic racers in the launch-day roster. However, Fuse Games has confirmed they’re more of an extra on top of more fleshed out vehicle classes than a main dish in Galactic Racer, at least for now.

This means that, while fully playable in single-player and multiplayer modes, the focus isn’t on podracers, and it’s been reported the campaign uses them as throwbacks of sorts. We don’t have the full confirmation yet, but this might signal podracing isn’t an official part of the Galactic League during the New Republic period.
