Project lead Brad Muir and designer John Swisshelm from Double Fine have released an hour long Skype call they had with XCOM: Enemy Unknown's Jake Soloman, discussing the return of turn-based strategy. It's a pre-production exchange of platitudes, ideas and cussing. With turn-based tactical strategy getting popular again, will the future be plagued by 'turn-based bros'? If so, blame/thank Soloman. Massive Chalice is Brad Muir's turn-based strategy set on an "epic fantasy timeline" where we nurture our heroes and help gain our noble house power and prestige. It's still on Kickstarter with 9 days left to go. Their goal of $725k has been achieved with it just $5,500 shy of $1m in pledges as of press time. Given that Jake Soloman and his team over at Firaxis brought back XCOM from the dead with Enemy Unknown to huge critical acclaim, Muir and Swisshelm wanted his perspective on the state of the genre. Today Double Fine will also be holding a Reddit AMA where Brad Muir and Tim Schafer will be answering the crazed questions. It will be running at 11.00am Pacific. Check out the Kickstarter campaign for more details. |
