Crusader Kings 2 covers an extra hundred years of blood-soaked, heretic-slaying, relative-murdering history with the launch of seventh expansion Charlemagne, available now.
Developer Paradox has also released a free patch to coincide with the DLC, which updates the main version of the game to make it compatible with the new expansion, and adds new nomadic tribal holdings.
Following the career of the man who became the first Emperor in Western Europe since the time of the Romans, Charlemagne also adds a boatload of new changes, including the ability to form your own custom kingdoms to play in the campaign, story events chronicling the rise of Charlemagne, and a historical ledger that collates all your best and worst achievements.
I’m genuinely scared of this expansion - I stopped playing CK2 a couple of DLC packs back after it threatened to become something of an obsession. Another hundred years of history though! Without the annoying Holy Roman Empire around to spoil my fun.
You can grab Charlemagne on Steam for £11/$15. The free 2.2 update is available now.
