It might not surprise you to learn that EA would prefer to synchronize the release of their highly anticipated shooter Star Wars Battlefront with the next film in the movie series, Star Wars Episode VII.
Speaking during an investor’s call EA’s vice president of investor relations Rob Sison said ”obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it.”
Given the insane level of hype that film will generate upon release I’d say there’s a good chance Battlefront might be pushed back to coincide with Episode VII’s release on December 18 next year, even if it’s ready to go before then. Of course it might be nowhere near ready. It is being made by DICE after all.
“What we’re building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made,” said Soderlund. “And that’s just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars. Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied to it.”
We might possibly see Battlefront in action at Gamescon 2014 this August, an event EA have used to show off big titles before, but don’t hold your breath. Listen, EA, DICE… let’s just make this one bug free, OK?
