I know we generally cover video games here at GameWatcher–PC games, at that–but this one is too weird not to share. Doom is getting a board game adaptation courtesy of the folks at Fantasy Flight Games. Yes, you and your friends can live out the epic war of marines versus the forces of Hell from the comfort of your own gaming table.
The game’s got that whole “asymmetrical play” thing that’s so hot these days. One player takes on the role of the invader, distributing and commanding the demonic legions in their attempt to take down human players. You’ll be able to summon more powerful demons as the game progresses, based on a set of cards.
There’s still nothing wrong with some old-fashioned shooter action. Check out the best PC shooters!
Up to four human players, in turn, will attempt to accomplish a mission taking place on a unique map with unique objectives. They’ll be able to use weapons and abilities from a class-based action deck as they take on the hordes. Oh, also, respawns and telefrags are game mechanics, and modern Doom’s Glory Kill system is also present.
You might look at Doom: The Board Game and ask “Why?” but I prefer to ask “Why not?” You can check out more details on how it plays at Fantasy Flight’s website, and check out its final release later this year.
