We can almost taste Grand Theft Auto 6 now. After years and years of waiting, Rockstar Games seems very close to getting it ready for a massive global launch. If you need a refresher or simply haven’t been paying attention, here you’ll find the GTA 6 launch date you need to mark on your calendar as well as all the details about pre-orders, target platforms, and more we have so far.
Grand Theft Auto 6 (or GTA 6) will be the first game developed by Rockstar Games to hit the market since 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s been a while, and even if the stunning tech (which will probably push the current-gen consoles to their limits) looks stunning, we also have to wonder if the evolution of all the gameplay and world design will live up to the hype. We have much to learn still, but here you’ll find all the key details (and trailers), synthesised so you don’t waste time and can get to the good stuff fast.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date
Unless another delay is needed, Take-Two and Rockstar seem to have settled on a definitive release date for GTA 6 which should define the release calendar near the end of this year.
- Grand Theft Auto 6 release date: November 19, 2026
Grand Theft Auto 6 Gameplay
Like past 3D Grand Theft Auto entries, GTA 6 aims to heavily redefine what open-world action-adventure sandboxes can be and how alive they can feel. It’s not just about more graphical details or more crowded streets, but also about making the world more fun to navigate and engage with.
If the developers at Rockstar have told us anything in the past, it’s that we should expect the unexpected when it comes to secondary activities and wacky side missions, so we’re finding it really hard to make predictions on that front until we get a proper look at uncut gameplay and/or hear from preview events.
What we do know is the core loop of doing crime in a variety of ways as we try to outsmart cops and other criminals will be untouched. Shooting, hand-to-hand combat, and driving (as well as piloting) remain at the centre of the experience, but how complex are those mechanics and systems this time around? We’re as curious to learn more as you are, but GTA 6 is looking massive and should feel substantially deeper than 2013’s fifth mainline game.
At the time of writing, it’s unclear if GTA 6 will have a new GTA Online component, but we’re expecting it to arrive sooner rather than later once the core game is done and launched.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Story
Grand Theft Auto 6 follows two protagonists versus GTA 5’s three in a modern version of Vice City (this universe’s fictionalised version of Miami): Jason Duval, a former drug runner and ex-military, and Lucia Caminos, who was imprisoned after fighting for her family in Liberty City.
Deeper plot details are being kept a secret for now, but the trailers released so far tease the relationship between these two characters will be at the centre of GTA 6, giving it a far more personal (and romantic) touch and potentially setting up hard-hitting drama later on.
We do know Jason and Lucia are drawn back into a life of crime (of course) and learn about a state-wide conspiracy following a failed bank heist. Things will surely get very complicated for them after that point.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Price, Platforms & Pre-Orders
Much has been written about GTA 6’s possible price point and whether it’ll be the first premium triple-A game to cross the $100 line, but it’s all speculation based on market trends and the game’s reportedly massive budget until we get the definitive details from Take-Two and Rockstar Games.
It’s unclear if more than one edition will be offered at launch, but we know for sure it’s only coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in November 2026. While a PC port is likely coming later, the powers that be haven’t announced anything yet, so be patient.
Following a recent leak, it appears GTA 6 pre-orders will go live on May 18, suggesting a new look at the game and an ultimate launch date commitment are almost here.
