Speaking at this year’s Prague’N’Play event for 1C, Chris Kramer - Managing Director of DigitalMindSoft and developer on the Men of War series, expressed frustration at times when delays in Steam’s own patching process fragmented their player-base.
”For some reason Steam users are being left out and we don’t know why,” he said when asked about patching for their new expansion, Assault Squads.
”We don’t know why Steam is taking so long to update its version of the game - it’s actually very annoying and very disappointing for us as we see our game having so many problems that we’re unable to do anything about.”
The original Men of War recently had a problem where the latest patches were taking too long to get officially released, and so un-official versions were given out as a stop-gap. Unfortunately not everyone took to it, and Steam users couldn’t get at it at all, and so the online user-base was fragmented.
DigitalMindSoft have implemented a more streamlined patching system for Assault Squads, in the hope to make patching more universal. You can find our more information about Assault Squads by reading the rest of the interview, or our hands-on preview.
Update style=orangBold: In response to this news piece, Kramer wanted to just clarify what he meant slighty:
“While it may sound like I’m blaming Steam for the delay with these words ‘We don’t know why Steam is taking so long to update its version of the game.’ The intended statement is that we don’t know why it is taking so long to update on Steam. As previously stated, DMS is not involved in the patching process for Men of War, because of this we don’t know why the patching process takes longer for Steam or other platforms. It’s not the intention of the statement to place blame for the patching process on anyone.”
”By saying ‘it’s actually very annoying and very disappointing for us as we see our game having so many problems that we’re unable to do anything about.’ I made a general statement about the whole patching situation for Men of War, not just pointing at problems with Steam. In fact we are eager to increase our presence on Steam and are highly anticipating to have a successful release of Men of War: Assault Squad on their great platform and discuss ways to improve our support on Steam drastically.”
