The DLC will be free for all those who joined the First Access club - that is, preordered the game - and will cost $9.99 USD (800 Microsoft Points) for all those who aren’t in the club.
Part of the DLC are three new multiplayer modes, including Freeze Tag, in which players cooperate to freeze and shatter their opponents in succession for point streaks and combos. Other modes are Hot Potato, in which players try to hold onto the babe the longest, and, of course, Hail to the King, a free-for-all mode.
The parodies in the game include Call of Duke, which obviously riffs on Call of Duty, where ”Duke engages in modern combat in a war-torn city. Foes don’t stand a chance against the Duke when he spams the map with the N00b T00b.” Sandpit is where ”players take the role of mini-Duke in a giant sandbox with two bases at either end made out of children’s toys. This map features Sticky Bombs.”
Inferno is an homage to the old Unreal Tournament multiplayer, where “Duke does combat in a hellish landscape of lava and teleporters,” and finally, a Team Fortress riff 2Forts1Bridge, where Duke gets to wear a lot of hats.
On the day of the release of DLC, the 360 and PS3 versions of DNF will be getting an update that will fix some bugs and optimize the game.
