Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will be presenting the keynote speech to GDC 2011; his presentation will be called ‘Video Games Turn 25: A Historical Perspective and Vision for the Future’. Apparently, videogames started in 1985, the year the Nintendo Entertainment System was released - and coin-op games like Pong, Breakout, Space Invaders and others, along with the Odyssey, the Atari 2600, the IntelliVision and the ColecoVision weren’t “real” video game systems. However, 2011 is the 25th anniversary of GDC.
Iwata has already been the keynote speaker at GDC in 2005, 2006 and 2009. GDC’s director, Meggan Scavio has announced, ”We are honoured and pleased to welcome Mr Iwata back to the keynote stage for our 25th conference. Nintendo continues to innovate and captivate developers and gamers alike, and we’re looking forward to their unique insights into both the history and future of the game business.”
GDC 2011 will be running from February 28 to March 4, 2011 in San Francisco.
