Radical Entertainment is so confident in its upcoming open world sci-fi horror title Prototype 2, the developer is predicting it will ”own” April and sell more than 4M units, thanks to what appears to be a slow month.
Radical Entertainment studio VP Dave Fracchia stated in an interview, “We sold 2.1m copies of the first game and our expectations are much higher for this one. “I would roughly say we’re looking at between 1.5 to two times (the sales of the original game). I would obviously like to see it higher than that.”
Fracchia added that publishers moving their releases out of April helped. “There were a few games that were getting hints about potentially being released during April, but they’ve all kind of moved, so we literally own April,” he stated.
He then noted that Activision has been backing and will continue to back the game with commercial air-time and promotion, and even launched a Prototype 2 online merchandise store. “Activision is most definitely getting behind this one even more than the first Prototype. That shows their faith in the product, which is great,” Fracchia noted.
Prototype 2 will be released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the 24th April. The PC version will be launched three months later on the 24th July.
