Microsoft has decided to pull their support of it, with ”no further details to share” for the moment. They probably weren’t feeling the Orlando Bloom-Keira Knightley romance subplot.
According to the E3 announcement for Matter, it was supposedly a motion-based puzzler that could evoke emotion from players. Is ‘I feel silly waving my arms’ an emotion?
”Microsoft Studios is no longer pursuing this title,” said a company representative, reports Joystiq. ”We have no further details to share at this time.” That’s PR code for ‘mind your own bloody business’.
Back in June last year, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer was all for Matter.
”To a lot of people who haven’t played games for a long time, somebody standing completely stationary with a controller in their hands kind of seems emotionless, even though we know that we’ll be sweating or twitching,” Spencer said.
”And his feeling, that with motion and movement, that the connection of the emotion that’s happening on screen and how the player feels would be more natural,” he continued, speaking of Verbinski who pitched Matter to Microsoft.
