We knew it would happen eventually, right? Hello Games has confirmed that its colourful, ambitious space exploration game No Man’s Sky will be coming to the PC.
In the September edition of Edge (reported by Gamespot) the studio claims that the game will indeed launch on PC some time after its PS4 exclusivity deal expires.
That’s good news for anyone intrigued by No Man’s Sky’s mix of space combat and procedural geneartion - basically anyone who’s ever wanted to fly a spaceship over a Brachiosaurus. Hello Games’ Sean Murray says that while the team wanted the game to feel like a console title, a PC version was always on the cards.
”I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really ‘console-y,’” Murray explains. ”We’ve always had PC in mind but in my head (that) means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be ‘console-y’ and it’s intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it.”
The developer also think that working on the PS allowed the team to really get a handle on their technology, making for a deeper and more vivid game world. ”Unlike most games, the actual hardware really affects what we can do in terms of the richness of the worlds and things like that. It isn’t just adding a veneer of resolution, or extra antialiasing options. It has a real effect on what we can actually do in the universe.”
No Man’s Sky comes to PS4 in 2015. Hopefully we’ll see it hit PC not too long afterwards.
