Hirshberg believes this could be the publisher's "third billion-dollar franchise," and it's all-hands-on-deck to make it the "biggest new IP launch" ever. It's out September 9th.
PS3 and PS4 beta codes will be made available first, Bungie stated back in November. These codes would be sent to those who pre-ordered.
"We believe Destiny could be Activision Publishing's third billion-dollar franchise, and we're working hard to make it the biggest new IP launch in video game history," declared Eric Hirshberg.
"Together, we are bringing gamers an ambitious and innovative game which combines the intensity of great first-person action, with the character investment and social connections of an RPG in an immense connected universe. We believe the game is on track to deliver record pre-orders for a new franchise, a public beta is planned for summer and we expect to launch the game on September 9," he added.
"We look forward to expanding this universe for years to come and you'll see much more in the months ahead."
Destiny releases on Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4 September 9th. Unfortunately Bungie would be 'spread too thin' they claim if a PC version was also developed, but hopefully their minds will be changed eventually.
"We know there are a lot of people out there asking for PC and we know that there are a lot of gamers that would willingly give us money, but what we have to do is make sure we're focused enough to bring a good experience to any platform that we ship on," Bungie community manager Eric Osborne said in November.
"What we 100 percent are not going to do is spread ourselves so thin that it negatively harms the other platforms. So right now we have the four platforms, which is a lot to focus on."
