We already knew that Darth Revan would be making his way to Star Wars: The Old Republic (some of you guys still play it, right?), but now we know what form his reappearance will take.
A new digital expansion titled Shadow of Revan marks the Sith Lord’s return at the head of an army of of fanatically loyal warriors - the ‘Revanites’.
Darth Revan is, of course, a memorable villain (though without wishing to spoil anything for those who haven’t play it, it’s a bit more complicated than that) from the best Star Wars game ever made, 2003’s Knights of the Old Republic. He’s a pretty powerful chap. To defeat this new threat something pretty unthinkable has to happen - the Empire and the Republic need to team up. Does that mean you’ll be adventuring with the enemy? Well Bioware haven’t directly confirmed cross-faction flashpoints just yet, but judging by some of the group shots in the announcement trailer I’d say they’re a fair bet.
What we do know; Shadow of Revan bumps the The Old Republic level cap up to 60, adds the two new worlds of Rishi and Yavin 4, and brings two new ”role-neutral” Flashpoints and four Hard Mode Flashpoints. As well as a bucketload of new armour and gear to loot.
Also on the way is a new ’Discipline’ system, a major overhaul to the class system coming up in Update 3.0. ”At its very core,” explains Bioware, ”the Disciplines System replaces the current Skill Tree system while offering a wider array of impactful utility choices to expand their character and the ability for a character’s identity to surface much earlier in the level path.”
Essentially the Discipline system is intended to make leveling a bit more interesting, cutting out the small, boring numerical bonuses littered through the current skill trees in favour of greater player choice. Classes will remain roughly the same, you’ll just get ”stronger and earlier role specialization, more utility, more flexibility, better balance, and more development time for class improvements”, according to Bioware.
Free game update 3.0 rolls out on December 2, while Shadow of Revan will be released on December 9 - pre-ordering will get you a week’s early access, and includes previous expansion Rise of the Hutt Cartel amongst a few other goodies. Find out more over on the Old Republic website.
