It’s looking increasingly likely that Dead Island 2, publisher Deep Silver’s attempt to move the zombie-splatting franchise on without Polish team Techland at the helm, won’t make its planned Spring 2015 release.
Despite the game’s various social media accounts still optimistically showing that date, Eurogamer Czech reports that internal sources at Deep Silver have informed them that the game’s been pushed back to September.
After an avalanche of marketing last year, neither developer Yager or Deep Silver has had anything to say about the game for almost five months – the game’s website was last updated back in December.
An open beta for the game was also meant to kick off this spring, but there’s been no information about that either. The beta is intended to be a 30-day exclusive on PS4, with PC and Xbox versions following on.
Generally it doesn’t bode well when a game goes this quiet. Especially when Techland’s Dying Light, ostensibly Dead Island 2’s main rival, is already out there hoovering up a very respectable number of sales. We’ll keep an eye out for any updates from either Yager Developments or Deep Silver.
