There’ll be no co-op heavy marketing for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate as Ubisoft Quebec is focusing on a single player game. After the unfortunate reception of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Ubisoft is going back to the core experience.
Syndicate’s London also has zillions of horse-drawn carriages, and that won’t play well online - especially with the faster paced combat that requires ”very high responsiveness”.
The series initially introduced multiplayer as a separate component but Ubisoft then went ahead and implemented them closer together, culminating in Assassin’s Creed: Unity being saturated in co-op missions, coupled with a heavy presence of companion app interactions.
While Ubisoft Quebec argue it’s for technical reasons that Syndicate will be going single player, it’s worth noting that Ubisoft took an immense hit with the backlash to Unity. It’s a convenient excuse to scale back on the online gimmicks to avoid angering fans further.
All side activities are also feeding back into the larger narrative.
”The reason we are doing this is to really focus on the roots of the franchise,” creative director Marc-Alexis Cote told Gamespot. ”That’s why all nine studios are focused on delivering this single-player experience.”
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate releases on PC in Autumn 2015 and features two protagonists.
