Overwatch fans may be slightly disappointed to hear that Blizzard are going to need more time creating the Competitive Mode. The Competitive Mode was originally scheduled for mid-June, but the official Overwatch Twitter account has posted that the mode has been pushed back to mid-to-late July.
The open beta of Overwatch featured competitive play, but could only be accessed by players that reached rank 25 or higher. Perhaps this wouldn’t be the worst decision for Blizzard to delay the competitive mode. Not only would it give the developers time to make the mode better, but it would give the Overwatch community more time to get better at the game. This is by no means an ideal solution, but there are some terrible Overwatch players that could probably do with some more playing time.
A lot of players want Blizzard to implement higher tick rate servers for Overwatch. The game currently uses 20-tick servers which is definitely playable, but it’s certainly not ideal when it comes to competitive play.
For reference, games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Battlefield 4 contain 60-tick servers, and for some Counter Strike players even that isn’t good enough. The Counter Strike community would prefer 128-tick servers, but Valve have decided to stick with 60-tick (higher tick-rate servers cost more money).
